"I'm grateful for Louise & Geri's care during my pregnancy and delivery. If you are looking for an incredible provider for your prenatal care and the welcoming of your precious baby, please check out Louise's practice.
Louise is incredibly talented and gifted yet remains humble and welcoming. She creates a comfortable environment in her office which pays off during labor; she knows you, and you trust her. During birth she helps you focus and relax by being positive (and firm when needed). Also her touch is amazing!
The best part of home birth is you have a strong voice in your child's arrival. Louise encourages this by giving you many choices throughout your care, where you feel that you are driving the boat (and not a passenger) during your pregnancy and delivery.
My 9lb 9oz baby boy came in less than 5 hours with Louise & Geri. I am certain their expertise and care gave me the confidence to birth quickly and easily. A lot of people may be considering a birthing center, but you lose a lot of your voice in that atmosphere. Louise came out to my house again after 24 hours of birthing and then several days later (with a birthing center, I would have to pack up and go to the center instead of relaxing at home). They were available at all times via text or email and got back to me right away each time. I was able to decline certain tests or procedures that birthing centers would insist on giving me and my baby. Surrendering my power as a birth mother is never a concern with a homebirth practice. I know that if anything went wrong, I could trust Louise to make that call and get me to a medical center if necessary.
If you are at all considering home birth, make a (free) consultation appointment with her. It will be worth it--take it from this mother of 4 home-birthed babies!" A. N. 2016

"We hired Louise for the birth of our second baby. I wanted to give birth at home long before I decided to have children and we had hoped our first baby would be born at home, but sadly, we had to transfer care to the hospital for post dates. Though it was a positive birth experience, when it came time to have my second baby, I was even more determined to give birth in my own home. Louise shared my enthusiasm, passion, and trust of the midwifery model of care.
After our initial visit with her, it was clear that Louise was a knowledgeable, confident, and extremely capable and qualified midwife. Not only did she have the background and skills we wanted in our midwife, but she had that indescribable spark we were looking for too. Her smile is infectious, her hugs are warm and genuine, and her attitude is always cheery and inviting. Whenever I see her, I instantly feel calm and secure.
At each prenatal visit, we would sit and chat for an hour or more. By the time my due date arrived I felt like she was part of my family. She would thoroughly address any questions, concerns, or fears I had. Besides the comfort, friendship, and reassurance she provided me on a personal level, with each check-up and physical examination, I grew more and more confident in her adept skills and judgment as a professional midwife. Any time my husband and I needed to make decisions regarding routine matters that come up during a pregnancy, Louise always provided us with enough unbiased information to make concrete and informed decisions. My thoughts and feeling were always valued. She really listened to us and always respected our feelings.
At the birth, Louise extended the same level of love and support and professionalism she showed me throughout my pregnancy. During the birth, she could read the situation and subtle cues and knew precisely when I needed hands-on care and extra encouragement or when I needed a quiet space to ground myself in the moment. I had a quick, but intense labor, and with Louise's unwavering support, the birth experience left me feeling strong, confident, capable, and so empowered. My son was born into the most peaceful and loving environment we could possibly provide for him. This was the gentle and joyful home birth I had been dreaming of!" M.M 2016

"This was a very hard review to write because it is hard to put into words the gratitude I feel towards these amazing midwives. We chose High Desert Midwifery at 30 weeks pregnant because a hospital birth was not fitting in with our vision of a family-centered birth where our children could be a part of it too. Louise and [Karen] gave me the greatest gift - the ability to reconnect with my body and remind me that it was mine to care for. I felt so much better during the remainder of my pregnancy because they shared their knowledge with me and I made it a priority.
The birthing experience was amazing. They were present and attentive and only offered suggestions when labor was stalling. Geri (an apprentice) was also amazing in her care and ensuring proper nourishment throughout and after the birth. Towards the end I became tired because of a slow descent but they encouraged me and were able to get our little boy over the hurdle and into this world. He emerged with the cord doubled around him and they resolved it before allowing him out completely. There was no fear, only their peace.
The care after has been incredible as well and I was able to follow their recommendation and allow myself to heal for two weeks while bonding with my little one, something I treasure very much. I feel amazing at almost 4 weeks postpartum and continue to allow their wisdom to resonate through me to remain healthy in mind and body.
These women are a part of my soul, now. I will carry their love and strength with me wherever we go and will always be grateful to them. It would be hard not to, looking into my little boy's eyes and having him as a reminder of their blessing." T & E Wineland

"If you're looking for the absolute best prenatal/postnatal care and home birth experience possible, this is it! I met Louise and her midwifery partner when I was 11 weeks pregnant with my third child. I knew immediately that they were a perfect fit. The passion they each have for taking care of and educating pregnant women and their love of babies and children was totally evident. They are also very educated and intelligent. Their fees are so CHEAP for all that you will receive from these ladies. They exceed all expectations. They worked with me on a payment plan and made it so easy for me.
Louise and her partner are both patient, approachable, competent, caring and sweet. They encourage, nurture and assist you throughout the prenatal AND the postpartum period. They always encourage you to make your own decisions for yourself and your baby, and if you ask, they will give you their opinion, which I greatly appreciated. They will tell you where to find unbiased research on any topic, and you are never judged or pressured into anything. You can text or call either of them any time, as they are always available and more than happy to answer any questions or address any concerns.
I especially like how detailed they are. They keep very specific notes and lab/test results on a password-protected website that only you can view any time from your computer or phone. They learn your body as you go, so they understand how to make your birthing experience and recovery the best it can be. They are so involved, they remember everything that you tell them. You never have to remind them about your specific situation or anything you've mentioned in the past, because they are so focused on you. They take all the time in the world with you and never make you feel rushed or like you need to "hurry up." They welcome anyone you want at your appointments and birth and are especially good with kids. They treated my other two children like gold.
Louise and her midwifery partner were very focused on making my birthing environment and experience exactly the way that I wanted it. Although I had a long, hard labor, it was a wonderful experience, because they were so in tune with my body and knew exactly what to do to lesson any pain, help my body work more efficiently and keep me mentally strong. They were both at my house all night for my labor, which was awesome, because they let my husband and I have privacy and were there just to assist if we needed anything. This was perfect for us.
My recovery has been incredible. If you follow what Louise recommends for your body type and your specific pregnancy, and especially your diet, you will have a fast recovery and be full of energy, even right after giving birth. I've never experienced the energy and wonderful mental state after birth than I have this time. Working with her and having such a positive experience just makes me want to have more children.
I just cannot recommend Louise and her midwifery partner enough. They were such a good team. If you are thinking of having a home birth, I highly recommend checking it out. Invest in yourself at High Desert Midwifery, you will NOT regret it!" Kelly Tekin

"Louise and her midwifery partner are the best! I had an amazing home birth and the care before and after was so much more supportive and extensive than what I experienced during my previous hospital birth. Wouldn't do it any other way in ABQ!" M.M 2015
"When I met Louise and her midwifery partner, I was about three months and toying with the idea of a homebirth. They made me feel comfortable with the idea and answered all of the questions my husband and I had. We felt very confident in them.
Throughout my pregnancy, my midwives were there for me not only at my monthly/weekly appointments but anytime I had a question or concern. They were available to answer them morning, noon or night. "My pregnancy and birth were completely my own."
They supported me in my decisions and helped guide me when I was unsure about something, always having an unbiased point of view and helping me to see all pros and cons. I went into labor in the early morning hours of October 22, 2015. After timing my contractions for some time, my husband and I decided it was time to call our midwives around 9 am. When they arrived, they helped me labor for several more hours. They had lots of techniques and guidance to help keep me and baby as comfortable as could've been while keeping the labor progressing. Finally at 10:10pm our precious baby Pearl came into the world at a whooping 9 lbs 7oz! Louise and [Karen] were sincerely excited and full of joy. They took there time stitching me up and weighing and measure our little bundle. After assisting with our fist couple tries at breast feeding they left us to get some MUCH needed rest.
Louise and [Karen] went ABOVE and BEYOND during my pregnancy, labor and especially in the week after giving birth. My midwives came back several times to help with breastfeeding and answered numerous questions via phone call and text. I still keep in contact with them and intend to have them when we have a second baby. The care I received was so much more personalized than that of a typical hospital birth. Karen and Louise where TRULY invested in me and my family. I can't imagine going through pregnancy and birth any other way! I will be forever grateful to them and always hold a special place for both of them in my heart! These ladies are truly one of a kind extraordinary midwives!" K.A 2014
